Yes, Virginia, There’s a Deep State. In Fact, There Are Two.

Our local newspaper runs an annual editorial at Christmastime called “Yes, Virginia, There’s a Santa Claus.” Its point is that some things that are invisible can be true none-the-less.

Last November, when Donald Trump was elected president of the United States against all odds and poll numbers, I modified the headline to “Yes, Virginia, There is a God”–to again prove that things unseen can have a hand in events on earth.

Now it’s time to borrow the phrase once more:

Yes, Virginia, There is a Deep State. In Fact, There are Two.

You can’t understand what’s going on in America right now without getting this.

Here’s why.

The term “Deep State” was relatively new to me when it came into vogue the past few months. We learn from the Oxford English Dictionary that “Deep State” is:

•  “a body of people, typically influential members of government agencies or the military, believed to be involved in the secret manipulation or control of government policy.

The first time I remember the concept was during the 1960s after Dwight D. Eisenhower coined the term “military-industrial complex.” It was later used to speculate on the possible clandestine operatives in government behind the 1963 assassination of JFK. (Never proven.)

So Deep State refers to unknown political employees who can/could control or manipulate national events without being found out.

That’s what’s happening to Donald Trump right now.

The profuse leaks from intelligence agencies, the illegal “unmasking” of conversations with Americans (such as General Michael Flynn), and the many “unnamed sources” that liberal journalists use to try to bring down this president are obvious examples of Deep State tactics.

Some holdovers from prior administrations in the vast labyrinth of government in Washington, D.C. are trying to de-legitimize and even impeach President Trump. One news story this morning reveals that three of them have been found in the White House itself and will be fired when President Trump returns from his trip to Europe and the Middle East.

Why are these clandestine operators in the US government trying to crush the president? It’s pretty simple. His traditional, Judeo-Christian-oriented policies could bring renewal to America and completely undue the secular-progressive agenda that are hell-bent on eliminating them.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich explains:

“America is the second nation in history with both a faith-based culture and a biblically based government (Constitution).  Secular-progressives are trying to destroy both. Hillary Clinton’s election would have sealed the deal, but Donald Trump’s victory has the potential reversing the American decay and renewing the faith-based foundations.”

Gingrich says the following to people who care about reviving America:

“Those of us who truly want to make America great again have one choice: Fight. Our situation is similar to President Lincoln’s in 1861. He had to make the choice between fighting until he won or giving up on the idea of the United States. Once again, our country is at stake.”

“The next few months will see one of the greatest decisions in American history. Do we fight to make America great again, or do we surrender to those who claim the elitist power to dictate to the rest of us? There is no middle ground.”

I couldn’t agree more. I would just add “Fight and pray!” We must perseveringly defeat the Deep State tactics and win the cultural battle.

Radio and TV personality Sean Hannity believes that a quasi-alliance has been formed between five different human entities that enlarge the Deep State influence. He believes the following pentagram of players, whether consciously or subconsciously, is trying to cripple the Trump Administration.

1. The Democratic Party and its radical progressive agenda.

2. The Deep State establishment within the bureaucracy (mentioned above).

3. Establishment Republicans who want to maintain the current power structure.

4. “Never-Trumpers” who were embarrassed when Trump won the election but are now surfacing as leaks fly.

5. The “destroy Trump propaganda media.” The liberal press that openly supports the Democratic secular progressive agenda.

I don’t believe most of these groups confer with each another regularly (though I’m sure this happens occasionally behind the scenes). They just share a common atheistic viewpoint that’s worked aggressively for years to destroy American exceptionalism (what Gingrich called a faith-based culture and a biblically-based government).

And they’re having an impact on American perceptions–especially the all-pervasive liberal media.

Gary Randall reports:

” Harvard has published the most telling study on just how biased the news media has been toward the president during his first 100 days in office.”

“The study also shows that ‘the news people’ could care less what the 63 million people who voted for him think or care about. Although Hillary is out, the media marches on, preparing for the next political campaign to ‘fundamentally remake America.'”

“Trump’s coverage during his first 100 days was not merely negative in overall terms. It was unfavorable on every dimension. There was not a single major topic where Trump’s coverage was more positive than negative.”

Do we see the glaring bias here?

The truth is that since Donald Trump took office, illegal immigration is down 70%, the economy and jobs are growing (including historic tax cuts in the offing), constitutionalist Neil Gorsuch was elected to the Supreme Court, America’s prestige in the world is soaring, many godly people have been appointed to key positions of influence, and the National Day of Prayer saw a rebirth of intercession at the White House that joined 35,000 other gatherings across the land.

What’s really happening is pretty encouraging! Sure, there have been some slip-ups by the Trump Administration, but that’s always expected of a new government. There’s a big learning curve.

But the multi-faceted Deep State is brazenly resisting at every turn.

Why?

Because even the unbiased press don’t go far enough in recognizing there are two Deep States in the world. The first is made up of human beings who subvert governments behind the scenes. But the most powerful one is the unseen Satanic Deep State which is behind it all.

The Bible is very clear that Satan, the Devil, is a real being. He leads a consortium of fallen angels (demons) that bring evil into this world to destroy people and nations. Ephesians 6:12 warns, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

This is the real Deep State–invisible, menacing and evil. Donald Trump was right to say in his powerful speech in Ridayh, Saudi Arabia that this is a fight between “good and evil.”

That evil originates in the Satanic Deep State who in turn influence the human realm.

That is why we must both pray and fight. Pray against the Satanic powers and tear their strongholds down. Fight for grace and truth on every part of earth our feet touch.

There may be two Deep States, but there is one King Jesus and His Everlasting Kingdom.

Let’s continue to believe Him for “Thy kingdom come, on earth, as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).
