What the “D” Now Stands for Behind a Candidate’s Name

Though this is a mundane political year around the United States, October is still a month to focus on candidates and issues for upcoming November elections.

Our local ballot is small but filled with names that have an “R” or a “D” behind them.

The “D” once stood for a Democratic Party which championed democracy, the working class, and personal responsibility (remember JFK).

Does America Have Enough Faith to Remain Free?

I love the United States of America. On July 4, 2021, we will celebrate the “Glorious Revolution” that brought 245 years of the world’s richest “experiment in liberty.”

One historian calls the creation of the USA the “five thousand year leap” from authoritarian rulers of all cultures and types (with a few brief exceptions) to an immense nation “of the people, by the people and for the people.”

There is no parallel in history–except ancient Israel. But they squandered their freedom, became slaves to self interest, were conquered, and scattered–until a sovereign rebirth in 1948.

21st Century Revival & John 17:23

Some years ago, I took my car to be serviced at a local dealership. While waiting, I picked up a magazine that advertised an interview with George Verwer, the founder of Operation Mobilization. I had  visited one of their mercy ships (the MV Doulos) and had great respect for OM’s work.

The interviewer got right to the point: “Mr. Verwer, what is the greatest need in the world today?”

I paused. Good question. How would I answer it? Certainly, there were many needs in the world.

Verwer didn’t hesitate: “The greatest need in the world today is spiritual revival in the Church.”

I agree. And there’s one huge key to that awakening.
