I Have a Simple Question
Bill O’Reilly of the No Spin News is one of my go-to news commentators. He calls himself a simple man. He likes to articulate simple questions when trying to arrive at the truth.
I’m a simple man too when seeking truth. For me, that means that the 2024 presidential race comes down to a very simple question: Which candidate, Vice President Harris or former President Donald Trump, will point America back to God?
Your answer to that question should determine your vote.
I Have a Simple Question
The most complex and detailed book I’ve written–River of God: Where Religion Began and Why Grace and Love Will Triumph–begins with two simple questions that are the most important for human beings.
“I’ve tried to write the clearest book on religion ever attempted. Why? Because the most important question a person will ever ask in life is, ‘Is there a God to whom I must answer?’ If the answer to that question is yes, then the second most important question is, ‘How do I come into right relationship with him?'”
I became a follower of Jesus Christ by asking those two questions years ago and believing Jesus died for my sins to reconcile me to God (John 3:16). My response to his lavish love led me to repent of my selfishness, put my trust in his salvation, and humbly make him the center of my life.
The Bible calls that being “born again.”
I die to myself and I live for God. That choice determines my life on earth and destiny in eternity. Nothing could be more important to me or any other person than answering those two questions and applying God’s solution.
The same is true of nations–of which the Bible says much. In fact, the largest single topic in Scripture, page for page, verse for verse, or book for book is God’s judgment (justice) toward nations. The entire prophetic section of books in Scripture (17 books) is primarily about that subject–God dealing with Israel, Judah, Egypt, Ammon, Moab, Assyria, Babylon etc. as nations that were called to account by Him.
In my prayer time this week at Faith International University, I knelt in the prayer room and read from a large hard-cover Bible that lay open to 2 Chronicles 7:14.
If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
This scripture was written for the southern kingdom of Judah nearly 3000 years ago. But history records many nations rising and falling due to either their obedience to God bringing blessing, or their turning away from him rendering disaster.
People reap what they sow in life, and so do nations. The consequences are not always immediate, but they are sure in the long term. We experience the natural results of our sins in many circumstances and enjoy the blessings of obedience when we choose to follow God’s principles.
Here another simple question?
What’s America’s greatest need today?
I submit it’s to repent of our selfish ways and return to God’s righteous principles in society. Another way to say that: Return to trusting in and respecting God (saving faith with the fear of the Lord).
Which presidential candidate, as flawed as they are, will more point us to our greatest need (God)?
Not Kamala Harris. Her policies and personal actions are the most anti-God (anti-faith) of any major presidential candidate in history.
Ann Moreno believes that Vice President Harris even possesses a level of contempt for Christians. She recently quoted Senator J.D. Vance at a campaign stop in Las Vegas:
“Kamala Harris has this attitude, that if you’re a Christian, and you’re trying to do charitable work … well, don’t even come knocking, because you’re not welcome in the United States of America,”
Vance cited the scourge of drugs, telling supporters there are many Christians and other people of faith who would love to help those in their communities who are addicted to drugs through counseling and recovery centers. Former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate said that the federal government is making it difficult for them to do that.
“Right now, the government makes it way too hard for people of faith who love their communities to get involved with helping their neighbors,” Vance asserted. “Donald Trump and I want to be allies of anyone who is trying to help make their communities better, because that’s the American way, and I love that about this country.”
Vance isn’t the first person to suggest that Harris displays hostility toward Christians. A male Christian college student who attended an Oct. 17 Harris rally in Wisconsin said later in an interview on Fox News that he was assaulted by attendees at the event after a protester yelled “Christ is king” and “Jesus is Lord.” The student said Harris then told him and a fellow Christian, “You guys are at the wrong rally.”
Kamala Harris’ policies (same as Joe Biden) would keep erasing God and biblical truth out of American society.
On the contrary, former President Donald Trump said recently that America “needs religion,” likening it to “the glue that holds” the country together. Trump’s comment came during an interview with preacher Paula White at the National Faith Summit in Atlanta, Georgia.
Trump contended that there is a parallel between the problems facing the country and the decline of religion in the United States over the past quarter to half a century.
“If you take a look at the anger, the problems that we have, and a lot of it is that it’s less based on religion now than it was 25 years ago and 50 years ago,” he told White. “I mean, we were a really, people would say, a Christian and really religious — even other faiths — country… “And that seems to be heading in the wrong direction. And I think as that goes down, I think that our country goes down. I think this is a country that needs religion. It’s like the glue that holds it together, and we don’t … have that.”
Trump said of religious Americans
“[You] are the most important people, and I’m not sure you even realize it. They’re trying to hurt you. They’re trying to stymie you, this new administration, this new radical left group of people, and it’s not so new. It’s been around for a while. And they are people that are not nice people.”
Trump is the candidate for religious faith as his campaign is uniting Christians, Jews, and Muslims in a remarkable way. One Islamic faith leader in Dearborn, Michigan, Imam Husham Al-Husainy, told reporters last week that Trump aligns more closely to the Bible, Torah, and Quran than Harris does.
“So the reason I lean towards Mr. Trump because I found him closer to the Bible, and Torah, and the Quran because I support peace, not war.”
So, we have Harris championing secularism, endless wars, and big government. Eighty percent of atheists in the USA say they will vote for her.
And we have Donald Trump, the unlikely hero, pointing to believers, the Bible, and God as our nation’s true hope. Eighty percent of believers say they will vote for him.
A final simple question:
How could you not vote for the only God-affirming candidate?
Pray over that question carefully–and do what’s right.
Trump’s terrible demeanor and words have made it very hard for me to vote for him. I felt like I my choices were the lesser of 2 evils. But recently I saw another way to look at it, considering God’s use of ancient pagans for His purposes. Who is the most teachable, relatable and closely aligned with what’s best for America. I had to choose Trump. I’ve never doubted his love for America.
Locally, especially with judges, who are hard to read… I considered the source of their education and who supports them. Birds of a feather, you know. This election is really a hard one.
Good for you, Sharon. We have to hold our noses at many things, but vote for the presidential candidate who most loves America and will point us back to God–not away into the abyss of atheistic destruction.
I’m proud of you. Let’s pray through the election and for God to use our next president (and many other leaders) to encourage spiritual awakening in the land.
