The problem with separating parents from children of illegal immigrants at the border, currently being used to score political points by many, prompted me to think about families.

I will first offer my perspective on the border controversy, then discuss another view of “family” that we desperately need to understand.

America’s Exceptional Faith

Some people struggle with the phrase “American exceptionalism.”

Our 44th president, Barack Obama, seemed uncomfortable with the concept when he said, “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.”

In other words, everyone’s nation is special in their own eyes.

That’s true to a degree, but it’s also a fact that America’s founding was unique to history.  Establishing our Constitutional republic amounted to a 5000 year leap in good government.

But there’s one more thing that makes us unique. What is it?

America’s exceptional faith.

Deception and Possible Felonies in High Places

I really enjoyed the original Superman TV series when I was a kid. It starred George Reeves and contained “amazing” special effects that showed Superman jumping up into the sky like he was flying (primitive by today’s standards).

Once each episode, Superman would explain his purpose: “I’m here to promote truth, justice, and the American Way.”

When we first heard those words, nobody laughed and everyone agreed.

Not now.

Not only would that statement draw snickers in many quarters today, but it’s being destroyed by what used to be the preeminent “truth, justice and the American Way” department of the  United States government.
