Yes, (State of) Virginia, There Is a God
“Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus” is a line from “Is There a Santa Claus?”–an editorial that appeared in an 1897 edition of the New York Sun. It ranks as the most reprinted newspaper editorial in the English language.
Virginia was a little girl who needed assurance of faith in Santa.
On November 9, 2016, I wrote an article called “Yes, Virginia, There’s a God in Heaven.” It chronicled the near “miracle” of a New York businessman Donald Trump defeating Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.
Last week the State of Virginia proved people are wising up to tyranny in America and God is answering prayers.
Be encouraged.
Can God’s people help this political awakening go deep and wide?
We Must Change the Language to Renew the Culture
Many weapons are used in a cultural or civil war. But the vanguard always involves a “war of words.”
God used words to create the cosmos out of nothing (Genesis 1:3-31). His language possessed creative power. When humans (made in his image) use words, they create mental realities, passion, and momentum for societal change. They also give meaning and authority to the ideas behind them.
Right now we are losing the war of words in America’s cultural war.
We must change the language to renew the culture.
What the “D” Now Stands for Behind a Candidate’s Name
Though this is a mundane political year around the United States, October is still a month to focus on candidates and issues for upcoming November elections.
Our local ballot is small but filled with names that have an “R” or a “D” behind them.
The “D” once stood for a Democratic Party which championed democracy, the working class, and personal responsibility (remember JFK).
Not in 2021. Here’s what the “D” now stands for behind a candidate’s name.
