House Speaker Mike Johnson: A Divine Appointment?
I was upset with Rep. Matt Goetz R-FL when he used the new House rules (with the support of seven others) to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Republican infighting ensued causing numerous speaker nominees to be rejected. I felt that could damage a much needed “red wave” in the 2024 elections. I surmised that if the Democrats were “terrible” in their current policies, then the R’s were “stupid.”
I was wrong. The Republicans, by unanimous vote, made Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana the 56th Speaker of the House.
He appears to be a divine appointment.
I Miss Coats and Ties
This past week Majority leader Chuck Schumer D-NY changed the 234-year old dress code for the United States Senate. Senators will now be able to wear whatever they want on the chamber floor after Schumer directed the sergeant at arms not to enforce the Senate’s informal dress code.
Poof.
Two centuries of etiquette and excellence gone. For what and whom?
This is not the biggest issue facing our nation, but it’s a symptom of cultural rot. I don’t like it.
I miss ties and coats.
Is The World About to Change?
On November 5, 2008, while taking a prayer walk through the east Texas prairie, God spoke to my heart: “The world is about to change.” I took it as a prophetic glimpse of the future and began to share the warning everywhere I went.
I thought at that time that an economic crash might be imminent. I also saw the decay of the American culture and knew that God is just.
But the sudden “jolt” didn’t come, though I prepared my work and family for it. Now, fifteen years later, I wonder once again:
Is the world about to change?
